‘As I understand it there are presently eleven conference organisers grouped loosely as individuals into an association which has a code of standard practice and conditions of membership but nothing else. The association has no legal status of its own and is entirely informal. However, to the outside world the association is being presented as a formal body, and to that extent the Association might be considered as a separate entity de facto; if not de juro. If this is the case then it could impose upon you certain obligations in relation to those persons within the group or seeking entry thereto and might also lead to problems in relationships between the Association and third parties’
