ABPCO experiencing university student membership growth
05 June 2015
The Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO) is experiencing strong growth in its university student membership category from students who are hoping to have careers in the association and not for profit side of the conference industry.
New university student members include Sarah Chapman (University of Derby), Jayne Hughes (University of Ulster), Charmaine Facey (University of Bedfordshire) and Jane Green-Peppit (Nottingham Trent University).
The student membership category includes free delegate places at all events; these events give invaluable exposure to current practices as well as networking opportunities with industry professionals.
“There has been a strong surge of university student members in recent months,” comments Heather Lishman, ABPCO Association Director. “As an association we are constantly bringing our members together to share experiences, best practice and to provide real opportunities so the student membership is perfect for those looking to get their foot in the door of the industry. Current student members are really benefiting from the exposure to industry professionals and we hope it’s a membership category that continues to grow because ABPCO recognises the importance of university students as the future of the industry. We are encouraging their involvement from the start of their careers to reinforce professionalism through education and peer engagement.”
To reflect the growth in this category ABPCO has co-opted Noemi La Torre, an events management student at the University of Greenwich, to the ABPCO board. Noemi will support the association with the formulation of a social media engagement strategy whilst providing input from a student’s perspective.
“The opportunity to gather experience alongside my studies is one I am thankful for,” said Noemi La Torre. “ABPCO has not only given me the opportunity to experience the industry firsthand, but it has already made a big impact on my fledgling career and I am looking forward to working alongside them over the coming months.”
ABPCO is the UK’s leading organisation for professional conference and event organisers, industry associates and those studying for, or seeking a career in the conference and meetings industry. For more information about ABPCO visit www.abpco.org
