ABPCO’s student approach paying off
04 July 2016
The Association of British Professional Conference Organisers’ (ABPCO) welcoming approach for young event professionals has been given a boost with student member Noemi La Torre joining TFI Group for a placement year.
Noemi, who is a student member of the association and a representative for young professionals on the board, has recently started a year-long placement with the agency. Taking a gap from her studies at the University of Greenwich, Noemi will work with TFI on large scale events and be given firsthand experience of the industry she is forging a career within.
“TFI has a long history of supporting internships and the career development of young professionals,” comments Rob Roffey, Director, TFI Group. “Without question, our commitment to their training brings rich rewards to our business in terms of innovation and bright ideas from some of the best graduates in event management. In the majority of cases, our interns come back to TFI in a permanent role at a later stage and we reap the benefit of our investment in their early career development.”
The placement began on Tuesday 19th July, but Noemi will continue to work closely with ABPCO as well as her other commitments with the likes of Azura Events and MPI UK & Ireland.
“Noemi is a fine example of how a young event professional should handle themselves when trying to build a career in our industry,” said Caroline Windsor, Joint-Chair of ABPCO and Director at TFI Meeting Point. “The drive and enthusiasm she has shown since joining ABPCO is refreshing and I have no doubt that she will go on to have a long and successful career. This opportunity presented to her by TFI really is something special and it’s great to see member organisations continuing to support the drive for professionalism by mentoring young people in the early stages of their career. Noemi will learn a lot and I hope many more young professionals follow her lead especially with ABPCO remaining committed to nurturing the next generation of event professionals.”
ABPCO’s University Student Membership is available to those studying at recognised universities for events management degrees, or higher. The membership is just £10 a year and gives the student access to everything a full member of the association enjoys including access to events and research.
Noemi added: “Connections, drive and passionate commitment are so important in the industry, even more so for young professionals like me looking to develop our fledgling careers! It is very rewarding to be an active member of ABPCO, and to be joining TFI Group, both of which encourage young talent to achieve their best. I was literally counting down the days before my placement started at TFI Group. What most excites me is that they have shown a deep commitment to my professional development, taking me on board for a placement tailored to my expectations, which offers me a 360-degree, challenging opportunity in a team who work to very high standards.”
