Springboard Gems Mentoring Scheme
30 September 2019
The Springboard Charity’s GEMS programme seeks to help students improve their employability, personal growth and confidence into the world of work through mentoring them over a 3 year period. We are now pleased to announce that the scheme is now able to support undergraduate students from tourism, events and hospitality courses.
The programme relies on the input of passionate industry mentors. GEMS mentors have 5+ years of industry management experience and crucially are looking to give something back to the industry while inspiring the next generation of hospitality team members. Springboard provides all mentors with specialist training, developed in collaboration with the industry-renowned leader, Dr Hilary Cook FIH, which we’ve honed over the 10 years the scheme has been running.
Mentors will meet potential mentees in a matching day, where they’ll be paired with a student with whom they’ll be working for the duration of three years, meeting at least once per quarter with regular contact in between. The 3-year commitment is vital to the scheme as it supports them through their degree and in their first year of work, where we know it can make or break a lot of students.
The scheme aims to inspire students to consider long-term career paths within the industry, following their studies, and allow them to make well-informed career decisions with the help of their mentor. The scheme also helps provide universities with expert speakers as well as providing students with opportunities to complete hands-on, unique work experience placements. The scheme is currently running across the UK in 26 Universities.
