Supporting NHS Louisa Jordan

The NHS Louisa Jordan is a temporary emergency critical care hospital being created to deal with the COVID-19 epidemic in Scotland. It was created alongside the NHS England run NHS Nightingale Hospitals, and similar hospitals in Wales and Northern Ireland. It is located within the Scottish Events Campus (SEC) in the centre of Glasgow and named after Scottish nurse Louisa Jordan, who died in service during the First World War.

 

The Scottish Health Minister Jeane Freeman confirmed that construction has now been completed at the NHS Louisa Jordan. The £43 million facility will initially have capacity for 300 patients, but this could be expanded to 1,036 beds if necessary. However, it is hoped that patients will not need to be admitted, but it is important to be prepared so beds are being equipped and staff are being recruited.

 

NHS Louisa Jordan will not just need clinical staff, but all other essential staff members needed to keep an acute facility running effectively, which will mean a large number of people working in the area.

 

Working alongside their NHS National Services Scotland colleagues from Health Facilities Scotland, the SHSCEvents team have designed and implemented a new booking system for staff accommodation and have been liaising with two designated hotels close to the hospital. Staff and contractors can now quickly and easily book online and know that they will have access to accommodation, allowing them to focus on their role in the hospital. The system has been designed with staff in mind and the Events team have adapted their existing Eventsforce events booking system to ensure that a solution could be in place quickly.

 

Additionally, the influx of new staff means that space must be found for induction and training sessions. With much of the SEC space being utilised by staff, SHSC have also been sourcing meeting rooms and liaising with the new hospital to ensure that rooms are suitable for social distancing as well as equipped with the appropriate audio visual kit to support learning.
