Personal Statement

I am Business Development Manager for Abbey Conference and Events, which is a part of the wider Abbey Group. The team is split into conferences - mainly handling association meetings, and events - looking after corporate, sporting and public participation events. The team has 26 full-time staff and is supported by the wider company, consisting of over 250 colleagues with specialisms in tours, accommodation, entertainment and all areas of leisure and business tourism.

As a PCO, we can support on all aspects of event planning, from marketing, registrations, staffing, communications, speaker management, sponsorship sales, venue and supplier management, budgeting and logistics. Our experienced team work together with our clients to understand their objectives and deliver on them, measuring our success on their success.

Abbey Conference and Events recenty received the IAPCO Excellence in Collaboration Awards for precisely this approach, the prize recognised the impact of the IFIC 2023 event on the association and the local community, which was only achieved through collaboration between various stakeholders.

Role & Skill Areas

As Business Development Manager, I look after new clients, ensuring we are a good fit and developing initial plans, before matching with one of our Project Managers to continue the work and deliver for clients. I work with our Project Managers to support on marketing, venue and city selection, funding applications and other aspects of event logistics. I enjoy working with clients to build their ideas and like to be onsite for event delivery too, so I can see those ideas becoming reality.

From my varied experience in the events industry, I bring a good mix of skills learned across in-house, PCO and convention bureau roles. I love the events industry and am passionate about developing our team's understanding of current trends and upcoming changes in the industry. I am a member of the ICCA UK / Ireland committee and regular attendee at ABPCO events.

Experience


I have a wide ranging experience working in events, having previously been in-house at different associations, working at a B2B publishing company, running their awards and round-table events, managing a team as Head of Events and working at Visit Belfast, the Convention Bureau. My broad experience means I have approached event management from almost every angle, handling marketing, ambassadors, bids, city selection, staffing, sponsorship and programming. I have brought all of this to my role at Abbey, where I am able to support clients and our project managers throughout the lifespan of their events.
