The first ‘Think Tank’

The first ‘Think Tank’

The first ‘Think Tank’ held over a weekend took place at Dormy House in Broadway in February 1984.  The ‘Think Tank’ gave members the opportunity of getting to know each other better and to discuss a subject of topical interest in more depth and these included: scale of charges for conference staff; taxation of self employed casual staff (discussed at a time when the Inland Revenue was clamping down on the self employed); liaison with the major hotel groups, universities and conference venues;

the NVQs/SVQs (National Vocational Qualifications/Scottish Vocational Qualifications) and the events industry mapping exercise; the website.

It became customary to hold the ‘Think Tank’ at a different venue each year.  In keeping with the times, this event is now known as the Annual Conference.
